While all this capability is easy to manage it does not limit the level of creativity and uniqueness of your web presence.  You can have unlimited styles of design and functionality.  Enable and Disable features with the click of your mouse.  If you don't want a message board, turn it off.  Then turn it back on again whenever you like.  The same is true for any other feature of your website.  When it comes to your website YOU are in total control.
